Sarah and Samuel

The changed life of a young Kenyan woman is the best illustration of Project Baobabs success. Sarah a young Maasai girl, graduated from Olooseous secondary school and Project Baobab in 2004.  Her business idea was to start a kiosk at the local Maasai market in Kiserian. The kiosk was very successful but the family had to move from where she had the business due to other factors.  She therefore moved the business to a new area and purchased a large, flat cart where she could display her many small curio items.  Her brother, Samuel, didnt finish secondary school due to lack of School fees, but started helping Sarah in her business.  Now they manage it together and they can be more efficient; one of them travels to Nairobi twice weekly to pick up the wares and the other stays by the cart to make sales.

In addition, Sarah has started a college program from the business profits and aspires to be a nurse.  Sarah is very proud of her accomplishment, and she has given her brother a viable way to make a living.  Often, successful business owners can employ at least one other person in their family or community, which helps the local economy and builds the owners self-esteem.   Sarahs business was able to support the family together with the fathers savings to put up a family house after they moved to the new area. The business has continued to support the whole family and has made them have a livelihood besides what the father can provide from part-time work.
