The Alaska Marathon: Support our Board Member
My name is Wambui Kihanya. I am a member of Project Baobab Board of Directors. I am running the Alaska Marathon on June 21st, 2008, in support of Project Baobab because it combines my passion for empowering people through action, and offers a chance to raise funds to enable Kenyan youth to take 200 hours of training. Please donate (make this word link to Just Give) to support my participation in the Alaska Marathon so that we together we can provide education and empower the Youth in Kenya.
A marathon is about endurance, commitment, and optimism. With each step in a marathon, one comes closer to the finish line. With this marathon, I want to put my steps together as a symbol of commitment, strength and optimism for those young people in Kenya with hope, commitment and hard-work but not enough resources. In the current state of chaos in Kenya, empowering the youth to better life is even more critical.
Dawn, a dear friend at Microsoft has also committed to run for Project Baobab. She has been pushing up the miles and training for the Marathon. Dawn is dedicated to financial empowerment of women and the cause to train Kenyan youth to be self-reliant.
The baobab is the tree of life in Africa; it is self-sustaining through drought and provides shelter to animals and insects. Likewise, Project Baobab is not handout, it's about giving education to that young hard-working girl, preparing her to be equally strong, confident, self-sustaining through her business, and often times sustain her family.
